This show is masterful. And it is wonderful. And it all seems so effortless. Thanks to the genius of Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisten. They put together snipets of Portland (a city that is apparently still stuck in the 90's), and paste them all together to make this terrific show.
Although there are a few characters that show up from time to time - most notably the proprietors of the "Women and Women First Bookstore", most are random vignettes, with a slew of random characters that are hilarious.
Some snippets that stick out in my mind, are the couple that are coming out to watch the "movie in the park" and require a 10' X 20' space and set up fencing, and hot plates, and exotic meals.... and then lecture the audience about talking during the movie. As soon as the movie starts they decide that the best way to beat the traffic is to leave during the opening credits. They create a ruckus packing up while others are trying to enjoy the film.
Other interesting clips involve the Mayor of Portland played by Kyle McLaughlin. He is a mayor, but like everyone in Portland, is way too hip, so he moonlights as a bass player in a reggae band. He also wants to start a Portland NBL Franchise called the "Portland Thinkers".
You get the idea. Good stuff. Practically guerilla TV. But with a great budget. Worth seeing, buying, or Netflixing.
Peace out.
